competition rules
Rijnmond Music Prize
To participate in the competition:
All musicians living in the Netherlands who graduated from a conservatory in the Netherlands in 2020, 2021 or 2022. The maximum age limit is set at 30 years. The minimum age is 10 years old.
The age of the participant on January 1, 2024 is decisive for participation in this competition.
Repertoire
There are no compulsory works. The participants put together their own program, preferably including a variety of style periods (baroque, classical, romantic, modern).
Duration: minimum 10 minutes, maximum 15 minutes long.
Registration
Registration starts on March 27th, 2024 and closes on May 7th, 2024 or when the maximum number of registrations is reached (20 participants). The order in which fully completed registration forms are received is decisive for participation. A video with 5 minutes of a live performance is required. There are no preliminary rounds.
Judging
Each jury member assigns two marks to the participant: for musical interpretation and for technical execution. Points awarded per component in 'whole or half digits' from 1 to 10.
The competition consists of only one round.
A performance in the church of Rhoon on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024 between 8.15 and 9.30 p.m.
Prices
1st prize: € 1250,-
2nd prize: € 750,-
3rd prize: € 500,-
public prize: € 500,-
The winners will also be offered a performance in Rhoon in the 2025 season.
Duration of the performance
If the playing time is exceeded, half a point per jury member will be deducted.
If in a category two or more participants have an equal total mark, the highest mark for musical interpretation will be decisive. If this is also the same, then the chairman of the jury decides.
If an entrant has any relationship with any of the judges, of whatever nature, that judge will refrain from judging. In that case, the total points of the other jury members will be multiplied by a correction factor by the jury assistant.
Points will not be announced. The jury result is binding at all times. In all cases not covered by the regulations, the jury decides by majority vote. In the event of an equal number of votes, the chairman decides.
The jury consists of the following musicians: Jeroen van Veen (pianist and composer), Aart Bergwerff (organist and teacher of organ and organ building at the Rotterdam Conservatory) and Joachim Eijlander (cellist and principal subject teacher of cello at Codarts). The chairmanship is in the hands of Jeroen van Veen.
A first, second and third prize will be awarded.
